Air Force Secretary Troy Meink announced today that the U.S. Space Force now has on-orbit space control weapons capable of defending the joint force against hostile adversary action. This is the first public confirmation that the U.S. is operating such capabilities in orbit. Meink made the statement during his keynote at the AFA Air, Space & Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. He did not specify the type or number of systems.

NEW: FROM THE SUPREME COURT The Supreme Court just blocked the Trump administration from rolling out new Postal Service rules on mail-in ballots ahead of the midterms. The proposed rules would have required states to submit lists of approved mail voters to USPS and use specific envelopes with unique barcodes. USPS would only deliver ballots to people on those lists. In a brief unsigned order, the justices said the government is “unlikely to succeed on the merits.” Justice Kavanaugh concurred that implementing the changes this close to Election Day would be arbitrary given how little time states have. Justices Alito and Thomas dissented. States can keep mailing ballots the way they already planned. The legal fight over the rule itself continues in lower court.
